The Best Photography Locations Around Lincoln Cathedral.

If you are planning a wedding at some of the lovely venues available in central Lincoln you will no doubt be wanting some beautiful wedding photos around the cathedral. Lincoln cathedral has sat proudly in the centre of Lincoln since 1311 and up until 1549 was the worlds tallest building.

It has been the used as a location for films such as Da Vinci Code, Napoleon and Young Victoria so if its good enough for actors such as Joaqin Pheonix and Tom Hanks and directors such as Ridley Scott then you just know its gong to be a great location for your wedding photos.

I am lucky enough to live not 5 minutes away from this amazing location and I have shot countless weddings around here so I know plenty of fab locations to ensure that you will have some beautiful photos from your day.

Favourite Locations.

I love shooting in the doorway at the front of the cathedral, it has beautiful shape, texture and pattern and makes a lovely frame for when I am shooting my couples in here. It is a simple but effective area to shoot in and has the advantage of not being  affected by the crowds.

The next area I like to shoot in is at the very front of the cathedral and allows me show the entire dramatic architecture of the building. This is a bit more of a complicated and technical shot to produce as I have to really consider my composition to ensure bride and groom  are well positioned and I can also get the entire cathedral in shot. I also use fill in flash on this shot to ensure that bride and groom are well lit and it allows me to underexpose slightly the cathedral to give it a dramatic feel, I love these kinds of images. On busy Saturdays you will have to contend with shoppers and tourists but by the end of the shoot you will feel like a celebrity with the amount of well wishers you will be receiving.

I particularly love this photo from Alex and Christians wedding where we recreated the famous V-J day photograph by Alfred Eisensteadt, you know the one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-J_Day_in_Times_Square.

Another lovely feature near the cathedral is Cathedral Carriages. So if you want a horse and carriage ride around Bailgate and the cathedral this makes for a lovely experience and fantastic photo opportunities.

If you happen to be getting married on steam punk weekend which is in mid August then you will have to contend with approximately 85,000 steam punk enthusiasts and that definitely makes for great photo opportunities.

Moving to the right hand side of the cathedral is another place that I like to shoot, this is a lot more quiet and again I can bring in most of the cathedral in the background and if you have hired a gorgeous wedding car this makes  a great location for this too.

Editorial Style photography.

Another way that I like to shoot my bride and groom is to give it a contemporary editorial/fashion feel to the images. The goal for me is to capture genuine  feelings and to show authentic emotions and love between my bride and groom. I like to just take you both for a walk and shoot naturally with you both holding hands, having a kiss and just enjoying each other. Its a great way to produce magazine worthy images and it brings in my experiences of when I used to assist for some of the worlds biggest fashion photographers when I started my photographic journey.

Favourite Venues.

You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a wedding venue near the cathedral and here are my favourite wedding venues.

The Assembly Rooms.

I might be biased but this one is my favourite. Its a fantastic venue perfectly located in the heart of Bailgate just a short walk from the cathedral. The grand ballroom can cater for up to 250 guests or if you are looking for a smaller intimate wedding the Edwardian suite is perfect.

I have shot many weddings at this superb venue and if you have your wedding here you can be sure that Gill, Matt and Tamsin will be on hand to ensure you have the perfect day.

The Lincoln Hotel.

You cannot get closer to the cathedral than at The Lincoln Hotel. With stunning views of the cathedral again this is a fantastic choice and I am lucky enough to have shot plenty of weddings here in 2025 with plenty more booked in for 2026.

The White Hart.

The newly renovated White Hart is another great choice for Cathedral weddings and again is just a short walk to the cathedral.

Charlotte House.

The nearest venue to where I live so I always like to shoot here. Newly refurbished and under new ownership this is another great venue that I always enjoy working at.
