Fiona and Marcus’s DIY wedding at The Priest House.
Fiona and Marcus where married at The Priest House https://thepriesthouse.co.uk/ in Castle Donington in September on a lovely autumnal day.
I was very much looking forward to this wedding as Fiona used to assist me at weddings about 4-5 years ago and she was also a student of my wife’s when she studied fashion at Lincoln University so I had a good connection with Fiona already. This was also a wedding that had been put off twice once due to “you know what” in 2020 and then a small matter of Fiona having a baby last year, oh well, good things come top those that wait etc etc.
The Priest House is a lovely venue, one that I have not shot at so many times before, maybe two or three, but it has a lovely feel to it, fairly small boutique style hotel on the banks of the river Trent.
Bridal preparation took place at Fiona’s house, so it was a quick reintroduction to Fiona’s parents, bridal portraits and then a short drive to the venue to catch up with Marcus.

Both Fiona and Marcus are very creative and as such the whole wedding had a DIY feel to it with Fiona and her family contributing to virtually every aspect of the wedding from the making of the cake to table decorations, all adding to the boho chic style that they both wanted for their wedding.
I asked Fiona what was important to them in terms of photography on the day, she wanted “natural and realistic” shots which I do think describes my style of work. Thankfully only a very small amount of group shots, its always lovely to get the essential mum and dad shots, but Ill be honest I am kind of glad when I have these in the bag and I can start to shoot a bit more creatively.

When asked what Fiona and Marcus where both looking forward to most on the day, they replied that it would be spending the day with friends and family, and also the food, which was very lovely.
After the first dance which was to You by Majid Jordan it was time to dust off the photobooth which I have not used for ages now, I kind of forget how much I enjoy these shots, very different to what I normally shoot, but it does add an extra element of fun to the photos. We finished up shooting when the sun had gone down and these images are my favourite from the day, they look so good by the weeping willow and shot in very contrasty black and white.
“I can’t help myselfI can’t help myselfI spend the afternoonThinking about you”
You by Majid Jordan.

The final word goes to Fiona who has this great advice for everyone that is currently planning their wedding, “don’t stress out over it, we had to postpone our wedding twice, once due to covid and then due to our son being born. Also make the most of every second as the day will go by so fast. The small things do not matter, its about having the best day with your partner. Finally get wedding insurance”
Great advice Fiona
